Rules for the Classification of Members for Club Competitions
Advanced Class
An ‘Advanced Class’ member is one who fulfils any one of the following conditions.
1. Is a Beginner who has won First Place in the Best of 5 – Monthly Competitions.
2. Is a Beginner who has won First Place in an Annual Exhibition section.
3. As a Beginner has had an award or had 3 or more entries accepted in any open exhibition (including the Yorkshire Photographic Union.)
4. A member who holds any recognised photographic distinction (eg RPS, PAGB, BPE, PSA etc.) or is professionally engaged in photography.
Beginners Class
A ‘Beginner’ is a member who does not fulfil any of the Advanced criteria above. The Council reserve the right to review individual cases.
Notes
1. A members classification in any other Camera Club will be taken into account in deciding his/her competition class in the Doncaster Camera Club
2. Any member who, in the opinion of the committee has reached a satisfactory standard in his or her Section can be promoted to the Advanced Class.
3. All promotions to take effect from 1st September each year.
Monthly Competition (Revised 31st May 2007)
1. Five monthly competitions are held during the Winter Season. They are open only to fully paid up members.
2. The competitions are divided into three sections which are :-
Monochrome Prints
Colour Prints
Transparencies (from either Film or Digital Capture.)
3. All prints and transparencies may be either home, or trade processed. The Club adheres to the FIAP definition of colour and monochrome for prints and transparencies. The Club adheres to the YPU ruling on what constitutes a computer-processed print (ie. The entry must originate from a photograph – digital or conventional – of the author’s own work.)
4. Each month a member may enter up to 2 monochrome prints, 2 colour prints and 2 transparencies.
5. Prints may be any size up to 50 x 40 cm, including the mount. Transparencies must be in standard size 35mm mounts. (ie. 2 x 2 inches) and correctly spotted.
6. Prints and transparencies should be titled and must be clearly marked on the back with membership number and class. Members names and addresses should not be included.
7. Only one mark will count in the competition. When two entries are submitted the higher mark only will be counted. The final points in each section will be arrived at by totalling the best of the five monthly marks. The winner in each class will be the member with the highest total. In the event of a tie for the first place, the next highest mark will be taken into consideration.
8. Entries must not have been entered in a previous DCC Monthly competition, or DCC Annual competition. They must be handed to the Competition Secretary not later than the date shown in the Programme, usually two weeks before the competition.
9. All entries must be the original photographic work of the author.
10. Entries which do not conform to these rules will be withdrawn.
Classes for the Annual Exhibition
1. Pictorial (Beginners & Advanced) Prints & Slides 2. Portraits (Open) Prints & Slides 3. Sport / Photojournalism (Open) Prints & Slides 4. Record (Open) Prints & Slides 5. Natural History (Open) Prints & Slides 6. Creative Print (Open) Prints 7. Creative Slide (Open) Slides 8. Garden Birds (Open) Prints
Annual Exhibition Rules
1. Prints and transparencies may be home or trade processed.
2. All Prints must be mounted. The maximum mount size shall be 50 x 40 cm and the title may appear on the front.
3. Transparencies must be mounted in standard size (2x2) mounts, be correctly spotted (see Transparency Mounting for Competitions.)
4. On the back of the mount for all prints and transparencies the member’s number, class, and image title must be shown.
5. Creative print and/or transparency classes are for work which is a departure from a straight presentation, having received some form of obvious manipulation.
6. The ‘Print of the Year’ and the ‘Transparency of the Year’ will be selected from the whole of the exhibition.
7. No print or transparency will be eligible if it has previously been entered in a DCC annual exhibition.
8. Entries will only be accepted from fully paid up members.
9. The judge may withhold an award in any class if the entries are below the required standard.
10. The Committee, whose decision will be final, have the right to reject an entry which in their opinion does not conform to the rules, or if the subject matter is considered unsuitable.
11. Acceptance into the competition does not imply automatic right of exhibition.
Set Subject Competition For Projected Images
1. A different subject will be set each year.
2. Members may enter up to four images.
3. The best entry, in the opinion of the Judge, shall be awarded the Danum Cup. Certificates may be awarded at the discretion of the Judge (up to three).
Inter-club Competitions
These are the trophies which are awarded for the following annual inter-club print and transparency competitions.
1. The Settle Trophy: Awarded to the winning club from Doncaster, Howden, Selby and Wakefield.
2. The Bessacarr Trophy: Awarded to the winning club from Barnsley, Dearne Valley and Doncaster.
